The neighbourly spirit has grown stronger
among residents at the semi-detached town- house in Section 7, Kota
Damansara in Petaling Jaya, since a one-stop centre was set up in 2003.
The centre provides a place for neighbours and other residents to meet
and organise activities or discuss problems of the neighbourhood and
find solutions.
It is located at the house of Mohd Fadzil Bahari, an ex-army man, who set up the centre with Dr Zahari Hashim.
Fadzil, 40, said the Section 7 Residents Committee had not been active
for four years and that there was a need to take steps to replace it.
Fadzil said it was very important to get to know
each other better because neighbourhood spirit was deteriorating in big
cities like Kuala Lumpur.
“Dr Zahari and I came up with this one-stop centre idea after seeing
that there was no place for residents to discuss their activities and
problems.
“Through the centre, residents will know what activities will be
carried out and problems faced in Section 7 and Kota Damansara.
“All types of information are forwarded to me, such as single mother
who needs help, sick people who need assistance to go for check-ups and
divorce cases,” said Fadzil, adding that he would highlight the
problems to the relevant authorities for further action.
Fadzil said the activities the centre had organised included Maulidur
Rasul in conjunction with the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, patrolling
at night and gotong-royong.
