THE police have agreed to step up patrols in an effort to improve security in the crime-plagued Section 17 area.

According to OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Hazam Abdul Halim, a dialogue was held on Saturday between the Petaling Jaya police, Bukit Gasing assemblyman Datuk Dr Lim Thuang Seng, Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) deputy mayor Zulkifli Ahmad and the residents of the Section 17, Sea Park and other surrounding areas in Petaling Jaya.

“The issue of the high crime rate was brought up, but from what we (the police) have found, it is not as high as some people claim it is, especially compared to other areas within the Damansara area.

“However, we have taken all their complaints into account and will beef up security by sending in more patrol cars and motorcycle policemen,” he said.

ACP Mohd Hazam added that the police also needed the full co-operation of the residents to curb crime in the area.

“They have to inform us if they come across any suspicious characters or if they are aware of any crimes in the area, so that we can take the necessary steps,” he said.
