SHAH ALAM: The number of dengue cases in Selangor is increasing at an alarming rate and proactive measures are needed to counter this.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said the Subang Jaya Municipal Council had reported 27 cases in the first week of June and another 50 new cases the following week.
“The Shah Alam City Council had 34 cases during the first week of June and 48 cases in the second week.
“So far, there have been seven dengue-related deaths in the state since January,” said Dr Mohd Khir.
To make matters worse, a new strain of dengue, which attacked organs
such as the liver, heart and kidneys, had also been detected, he told
reporters after chairing the weekly exco meeting yesterday.
Given the worrisome development, he said that all local councils and
the public must work together to counter the dengue menace.
According to Dr Mohd Khir, areas with stagnant water in private
residences and empty houses contributed to the rise of dengue cases.
“In view of this, the local councils may have to enter empty houses
without prior permission from the owners if the premises were found to
be breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito,” he added.
