THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) stands by its decision over the pest control certificates that the business community in the area are staunchly against.
In a press statement, the council said that its objectives included improving the work and living environment, to better the quality of life, increase the value of properties and, most importantly, to prevent the spread of disease.
MPSJ also cited reasons why a council-elected pest control company was needed.
The first, it said, was because there were several pest control firms
that collected money from business operators, but did not rid their
premises of the pests.
“Police are monitoring and investigating such firms.''
It added that there were firms that closed down after operating for only a few months.
“This caused further losses to the owners who had paid the pest control firms for their services,” it said.
The council also wanted uniformity when conducting pest control activities.
The statement cited that the decision was taken at a May 31 full board meeting.
However, following discussions with business owners, and taking into
consideration the problems faced by some businesses who had engaged
their own pest control companies, it decided to carry out the service
in two stages - the first for businesses dealing in food, and later,
from 2009 onwards, all other premises.
