THE pest control certification saga of Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) continues with the DAP stepping in to ask why a council-elected consortium is needed.

DAP Selangor publicity chief Lau Weng San said the party did not understand why companies unrelated to the pest control industry were made part of the consortium endorsed by MPSJ.

“Checks have been made with the Companies Commission which revealed that of the six companies in the consortium, only one is registered as a company providing pest control services,” he said at a press conference.

“One is registered as providing cleaning and maintenance services, while another is into property development.

“Handling pesticides means handling poison. Are companies inexperienced in this line qualified to do so?” he asked.

He said letters had been written to the council president calling for transparency and accountability.

“We have not received detailed replies from the council’s officers. We also wanted the contents of the contract with the consortium revealed.

“We asked for a three-party talks among the business owners, the consortium and the council to find a solution,” said Lau.

“This is a free trade world. People should be allowed to choose freely within the confines of the law.
