WHAT was supposed to be a two-hour dialogue between Kelana Jaya residents and the authorities took twice as long to finish as nearly all of the 100 residents who turned up were given a chance to speak.
Apart from from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), other authorities represented at the dialogue were the police, Alam Flora, Syabas and Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
The event, held at the Taman Kelana Indah multipurpose hall in SS7/28, Kelana Jaya, was presided by Kelana Jaya MP Loh Seng Kok.
Starting at 2.30pm and ending at 6pm, the dialogue saw residents bringing up various issues, from clogged drains and uncollected rubbish to smelly drinking water and snatch thieves.
Loh, who handled the dialogue well, gave most of the residents present a chance to voice their complaints or opinions.
He said he was glad that MBPJ secretary Zulkepli Ahmad, police officer ASP Ranjit Singh and Alam Flora and Syabas officials were present to take note of all the complaints.
Friends of Kelana Jaya Park vice- president Jack Lim said MBPJ should look into the condition of water in the drains in SS5 Kelana Jaya where, he claimed, the water quality had reached Class Five.
“I have prove of it. And under Class Five, the water in the drains cannot be touched without using gloves as it is dangerous. We hope MBPJ will look into the matter and take action fast,” said Lim.
Zulkepli responded by saying that he was shocked to hear this and that he would immediately call on the Department of Environment (DOE) to look into the matter.
Friends of Kelana Jaya Park secretary Musa Mohamad, who lives in SS7, pointed out that snatch thieves and robbery cases had become rampant lately.
