THE Sentul Link, a new 1.8km-long flyover connecting Lebuhraya Mahameru to Jalan 2/48A in Bandar Baru Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, will be opened by the middle of the month.
With the opening of the million-ringgit flyover, motorists can travel smoothly from Lebuhraya Mahameru to Jalan Sentul, or vice-versa, by crossing Jalan Kuching and Jalan Ipoh.
This will reduce traffic congestion along the Jalan Tun Razak-bound lane of Lebuhraya Mahameru, especially near PWTC, as well as along Jalan Sentul and Jalan Ipoh.
A City Hall spokesman said the project would be handed over to the local authority by its contractor this week.
“The project aims to provide motorists with an alternative road to go to Jalan Sentul and Jalan Ipoh,” he said.
The City Hall project, which began in June 2004, includes the
construction of a slip road from Lebuhraya Mahameru, a dual two-lane
carriageway and an exit road to Jalan Perhentian.
The project is necessary in view of the growing population in the Sentul East and Sentul West development.
To further improve traffic flow in Jalan Sentul, City Hall has
implemented a one-way traffic system called Sentul Loop in the Sentul
Raya Boulevard commercial area.
Jalan Sentul has been turned into a one-way street from the new Sentul
Link exit junction near SRK La Salle to the Jalan 11/48A junction.
Motorists from Jalan Gombak now have to turn left onto Jalan 11/48A to get to Sentul Link or Jalan Ipoh.
The other change motorists may see when the Sentul Link is open is that
they will no longer be able to use Jalan Perhentian to go to Jalan Ipoh
as the road will only take them to the Sentul KTM Komuter station.
