GENTING HIGHLANDS: The Malaysian economy will not degrade with the need for greater environmental protection, said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.
“On the contrary, the economy will evolve to suit the demands of the consumer,” he said at the closing of The Star Green Pow Wow attended by The Star BRATs (Bright, Roving, Annoying Teenagers) who were among 32 young people joining forces regionally to create media campaigns exploring environmental issues using four types of media - print, television, radio and online.
Ong said he was pleased to be with a group of conscientious young leaders of tomorrow
“You are here because you want to echo the concerns of the governments
of the world. We cannot claim to have economic prosperity if the
environment is in shambles.”
“By increasing the demand for an environmentally friendly mode of
production it will help create business opportunities in areas such as
recycling, waste management, environmental consultancy work and
research and development.”
