PUTRAJAYA: The tsunami disaster has caused property damages
and losses estimated at nearly RM100mil, Second Finance Minister Tan
Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said.
He said the Government was in the midst of updating information and the exact figure on the losses would be known in two days.
“Based on information from the police, in Kuala Muda alone the property losses are estimated at RM21mil.
“We are assessing the damages in other affected areas including losses
like fishing boats,” he told reporters after receiving RM300,000 from
Tenaga Nasional Bhd for the National Tsunami Relief Fund at the Finance
Ministry here yesterday.
The cheque was presented by TNB deputy president Datuk Abdul Hadi Mohd Deros.
Nor Mohamed said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had
already announced financial aid of RM1,000 to the victims in addition
to the RM200 for those hospitalised.
