KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Works Department has terminated the contract of Perembun Consortium, contractor of the Gemas-Ayer Hitam road.
“This contractor will be the first to face action since the implementation of the new ruling under the 9th Malaysia Plan (9MP),” said Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.
The new ruling calling for swift and severe action against contractors
who have defaulted on their contracts has been enforced since the
implementation of the 9MP.
“The time for mere statements and warnings are over. We are now taking
action,” he said after presenting excellence service awards to his
ministry's staff here.
The project was undertaken on a joint venture between Perembun and another company.
Ministry officials said the other company had not shirked its responsibilities. – Bernama
