A meeting will be held between business operators in Bandar Baru Bukit Beruntung, the area’s developer and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd to resolve the issue over a stagnant oxidation pond. The meeting, arranged by the Drainage and Irrigation Department, is expected to be held on Tuesday. S. Chandran, who had complained of the stench from the stagnant oxidation pond, said the department informed him two days ago about the meeting.
“They said I could bring other business operators to the meeting,” he said. IWK and the developer, Talam Corporation Bhd, hold each other responsible for cleaning up the mess. Talam says it is IWK’s job since the latter charges residents for its services. On the other hand, IWK says it’s Talam’s responsibility, as the developer has yet to surrender the network pump station to the Government. On Wednesday, The Malay Mail highlighted Chandran’s complaint. He said the pond had not been functioning for four years. Chandran, who owns a unit at the light industrial area, said the untreated water from manholes ends up in a nearby monsoon drain, causing the stench. He complained several times to the Gombak IWK office in July last year. Chandran said it was unfair for IWK to charge him for a service that was never rendered. source: Malay Mail online 21-1-2006 link: http://www.mmail.com.my/Current_News/MM/Saturday/National/20060121113130/Article/index_html
