Government-built houses can't be sold for 10 years PDF Print E-mail
Written by The Star
Houseowners under the People’s Housing Project (PPR) cannot sell their units in the first 10 years of their purchase, said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.

“They (the owners) are relocated residents from squatter areas and the prices of these houses are much lower than market value,” he said.

He said the Government would ensure that only those who met its criteria would be allowed to buy the units, and that all records would be kept by the local councils.

Build-sell concept gets big aye PDF Print E-mail
Written by The Star
PUTRAJAYA: Both the Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (Rehda) and House Buyers Association lauded the Government’s approval of the build-and-sell concept.

Under the concept, house buyers pay 10% of the house cost when they sign up for it and the remaining 90% only when the house is ready.

Rehda president Datuk Jeffrey Ng said this concept parallels the existing progressive payment scheme and this was good as both approaches balanced the needs of the nation and house buyers.

Are Termites Eating You Out of House and Home? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Aldene Fredenburg
Human beings have been battling insects as long as both species have been on this planet. Bugs have been known to cause both mild and severe health problems, destroy crops, and generally make a nuisance of themselves. Termites, while not known to directly cause illness, can literally eat your house out from under you, causing structural damage that weakens your home, sometimes beyond repair.

Termites are attracted to the protein content of various woods; different kinds of termites actually favor different woods, but one common issue is the moisture content of the wood. Termite infestations are especially prevalent in rainy weather or during periods of high humidity. Keeping your house moisture-free by grading the land around the house and using drain spouts to direct rain away from the building can eliminate a major source of attraction to termites. Basements in particular can be a big source of moisture in the home, but can be built or remodeled to be moisture-free.

Own Or Rent - Which To Choose? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Felicity Walker
It happens to all of us eventually - we go to pay the rent and realise how much money we hand over at rent time. Then we start to wonder if maybe we'd be better off putting that money towards buying a house. It's never an easy decision, mainly because it's such a big decision - one that will have an effect on you and your lifestyle for many years ahead. So let's take a look at both options, and check out the pros and cons of owning and renting.

Firstly, let's look at the option and buying your own home. Most people aspire to owning their own home; it's a dream for most of us. If we're planning to start a family, the urge to have our own home frequently becomes a lot stronger. Home Seller's: First Step To Take To Avoid Big Mistake PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeanette Joy Fisher
It's not easy for most people to do, but the moment you decide to sell your home, it becomes something else -- it becomes a product, to be sold like any other product. It can be a sobering thought, but it's a necessary mental step to take if you're going to sell your home quickly, and for as much money as possible.

The first step in that process is to look at your home with a new set of eyes: the eyes of a buyer. They don't have the emotional attachment to all of your knickknacks and family photos that you do. To them, a shelf filled with various trinkets and souvenirs is merely a collection of clutter; something that prevents them from seeing the real house underneath all your stuff.

Home buying is a big deal, but it doesn’t have to be difficult.

People buy homes for many different reasons. Why Isn't Your House Sold? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeanette Joy Fisher
If your house for sale isn't generating offers, there a few actions you can take to make up for the slow real estate market.

Check Your Sales Price

Your home may be overpriced. Listen carefully to your listing agent who knows better than the folks at the office, your relatives, or friends at the club about the listing price of your home. Agents are paid to know their markets, and they work with real estate every day, so they have informed opinions on the latest market conditions and home prices.
